Cala Bona – Popular resort with British visitors

Cala Bona has a variety of hotels to choose from. You have a choice of luxury hotels, affordable mid-range hotels, or cheap hotels. They are situated both inside the resort as well as on the promenade that overlooks the sea and the marina.

A fairly lively family resort, is located on the east coast of Majorca, and adjacent to Cala Millor. There are many good cafes and restaurants that surround the very pretty Marina, which comes to life in the evening hours. Additional bars, cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops can be found along the seafront as well as on the interior pedestrian walk through. Every year, on the 16th of July the festival of the Virgen del Carmen takes place when you will see decorated fishing boats.

Although the beach is smaller than that of Cala Millor, it is built in a sandy bay, and is nicely sheltered. There are restaurants, a supermarket, and some small souvenir shops along the promenade behind the beach, and there is a pharmacy on the corner, not far from the beach area.

The newly created cycle path that runs along the promenade makes cycling a pleasure, as you can take in the sea views while cycling. There is also another cycle path that leads to Son Servera, where a market is held every Friday morning. There are ample Bicycle Rental Outlets where you can rent bicycles, etc. There is also a children’s entertainment near the pedestrian walk through area.

The bus service is very good. There is a Blue Bus that runs from Son Servera around Costa de Los Pinos, to Cala Bona and then into Cala Millor and back up to Son Servera again. For those of you who enjoy Golf, you will have your choice of four Golf Clubs to choose from. Approximately 15 minutes away, you have the Son Servera Golf Club and Pula Golf Resort (which is on the European Golf Tour Circuit), as well as Canyamel and Capdepera Golf Courses

A fairly lively family resort, that is located on the east coast of Majorca, and adjacent to Cala Millor. The journey from Palma de Mallorca airport is approximately one hour by car, depending on traffic at the time of your arrival.

Bonanza Mini Mart (Cala Bona Marina)

If you plan to visit Cala Bona, why not stop in an see our friend Caroline at the Bonanza Mini Mart (directly next to the Cala Bona Hotel in the Marina), where you can find a selection of English groceries, drinks, and sweets. Moreover, Caroline bakes up the BEST CARROT CAKE IN THE WORLD. I can attest to this, because it is made with MY VERY OWN SECRET FAMILY RECIPE; …

Caroline is the only person I have ever given this recipe to and, she has sworn to me that she will never give this recipe out to anyone.

So, if you get hooked on it … as most people do …

you will have to see Caroline for another slice. In fact, Caroline has told me that on several occasions visitors have asked her to bake a whole cake for them.

Caroline also makes fantastic “take away sandwiches”, and a variety of delicious cakes. There are some tables and chairs in front of her shop, where you can relax, enjoy the food, and take in the atmosphere of the beautiful Cala Bona Marina.

I just adore the charming marina. Boat trips are available from the here. There are many delightful, warm and friendly restaurants around the harbour, where my husband and I dine quite often in the summer months. The food is consistently delicious. Can you imagine yourself dining by candlelight in a lovely seaside restaurant with the gentle sound of the waves in the background. There’s nothing more romantic!

Compared to the beach in Cala Millor, the beach is small and it is quite busy in the summer months. I believe that it is popular because it is in such a nice, sheltered, sandy bay.

Unfortunately, this town does not have its own market, however, there is a very nice market held in the town of Son Servera every Friday morning. You can take the local blue bus that runs from Son Servera around Los Pinos, Cala Bona and Cala Millor. This is a new service that started in February 2009

The resort is just 3 kilometres away from the Son Servera Golf and Pula Golf resort. Also close by is Canyamel and Capdeprera golf courses.

Driving information update

Good news for drivers that would normally take the road through Son Servera. The Balearic government recently announced a €13,000,000 by-pass highway around Son Servera. The new road will start from the roundabout next to the Repsol garage and finish at the Ma 4040 highway from Manacor to Capdepera.

Another benefit for drivers is the opening of the road system from the roundabout next to Cotesa’s office on Avda. Magnolia. This road allows easy access to Cala Millor and you can drive right through to the California apartments next to Dos Pins restaurant.

The European Tour event takes place at Pula Golf club in Son Servera, Mallorca. This event is the Iberdrola Open Cala Millor. The course is located on the Ma4040 highway just a few kilometers north of Son Servera.
